How to add captions to a Reel on iPhone without uploading your video

Most caption tools work by uploading your video to a server, transcribing it there, and sending it back. That is fine for many people and not fine for anyone whose face, voice, or client work should stay on their phone. There is another way.
1. Why on-device captions are possible now
Modern iPhones run speech recognition locally. Apple's on-device speech engine returns each word with its timing, which is exactly what word-by-word captions need.
Good Take uses it to transcribe your take on the phone. The audio never leaves the device.
2. Record with the words already known
If you record in Good Take, the transcript is produced as part of the take. There is nothing to upload later.
You can also import a video you recorded elsewhere. Good Take transcribes it on the phone the same way.
3. Fix the transcript, not the captions
Read the transcript once. If a word is wrong, correct it in the text; the caption updates. Names and brand names are the usual fixes.
Remove filler words in one tap so the captions do not spell out every um.
4. Pick a caption look
Good Take has four: Plain, Pop, Marker, and Strip. Pop and Marker highlight the word being spoken, which is what most Reels use. Strip is quieter and reads well on busy backgrounds.
Keep captions in the center band of the frame. Instagram's interface covers the bottom of the video, so captions there get hidden.
5. Export and post
Export to Photos. The captions are burned into the video, so they show on every platform, not only where the platform supports caption tracks.
Post from Instagram as usual.
